Graded PR70 by PCGS, this coin is in perfect condition and a premium-quality collectible for any collection. Marking the 50th anniversary of the 1967 referendum and the 25th anniversary of the 1992 Mabo decision. Both events played a key role in advancing Indigenous rights in Australia.
The 1967 referendum saw Australians vote to remove discriminatory sections from the Constitution, allowing the federal government to make laws for Aboriginal people. In 1992, the Mabo ruling recognised native title and overturned the concept of “terra nullius”, acknowledging the Meriam people’s traditional ownership of the Murray Islands.
This coin was designed in collaboration with Boneta-Marie Mabo, artist and granddaughter of Eddie ‘Koiki’ Mabo. The reverse features Eddie Mabo, the Torres Strait Island and Aboriginal flags, and the slogan ‘RIGHT WRONGS WRITE YES for ABORIGINES!’.
